Airports in Ghana

The Kotoka International Airport is the principal air entry point to Ghana. It is a modern airport that places its technological facilities at the disposal of other countries in the West Africa sub-region. This explains why Ghana is referred to as the 'Gateway to Africa'.

There are Ghana Airways flights from Kotoka Airport in Accra to almost every country in West Africa, as well as flights to New York and London. The airport is also served by several major western carriers. The US$20 departure tax is payable in cedis or in US dollars.

Other airlines serving Ghana include Alitalia, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Northwest Airlines, Swiss, South African Airways and United Airlines.

The flight from London to Accra takes 6 hours 30 minutes (direct) or 8 hours 25 minutes (with stop over in Kano). The flight from New York takes 9 hours 30 minutes (direct).

Sobel Air now offers low-priced domestic flights from Kotoka Airport, 10km north-east of central Accra, to Kumasi and Tamale. See Flight Schedule

Taxis to the city from the airport are available. Airport facilities include banks / bureau de change, car hire, duty-free shops, restaurants and tourist information.
